Projects

Overview

This page is a collection of my work samples. Some of them are scattered throughout the site, but I’ve done my best to gather them all here. I’ll try to keep the descriptions to a minimum, so you can judge them for yourself. Click on a resource to download the file.

Instructional Video

As part of one of the “capstone” courses at FSU, I was required to create an instructional video and post it to YouTube. I chose to demonstrate how to use GarageBand to record a podcast, as this is a skill many teachers are interested in learning. Be sure to download the corresponding manual before watching.

Work Samples

Instructional Web Portals Report Interactive Quiz

For this project, I analyzed the need for an online portal by students and faculty at Florida State University. Then I prepared a report on the strengths and weaknesses of the current system and presented several alternatives.

In my second semester at FSU, I took an Educational Technology course in the College of Education. While the material was not new to me, I gained valuable insight into what new teachers are taught about how to use technology in the classroom. This project is an interactive quiz created in Microsoft PowerPoint.

Helpdesk Database System Project Plan

I created this system as a cumulative project in my Information Organization and Communication course. Working with other students, I analyzed a problem and developed a prototype database-driven system to solve it. This project taught me project management skills and teamwork while expanding my knowledge of databases.

One of my favorite classes in my major at Florida State was Communication for Information Professionals. In this course, we learned all aspects of professional communication: written, verbal, interpersonal, electronic, etc. We also learned how to prepare an electronic document, such as this project plan.
Challenger Learning Center Project Conley School Web Site
Working with classmates, I developed this interactive application using Adobe Flex software. The application shows students how to do the math used at the Challenger Learning Center’s Mission field trip, and then assesses these skills to help teachers assign students to specific roles. This project served two purposes: it was the final assignment in my Information Architecture course, and demonstrates the skills I learned there. It was also a major goal of mine upon being hired at a brand new elementary school to develop a complete web site for it.Supporting files:

Mock Survey and Report Killearn Lakes Elementary Web Site
For this project, I worked with a team to develop survey and interview questions in response to a scenario about a hospital looking to purchase new technology. Then, based on mock research results, we prepared a report and presentation of research-based suggestions.Supporting files:

I worked in a group to create this redesigned version of a local elementary school’s web site. Our goal was to gain a better understanding of the principles of Information Science (classification, storage, and retrieval of information). It was also our first introduction to Client & Audience Analysis and Usability Testing.Supporting files:
