Problems/Solutions #3

Posted on July 11, 2009

This week we decided to reexamine our progress and really define the scope of what we hope to accomplish this semester.  This is different than the scope of the entire project, which will extend several semesters and ultimately lead to a comprehensive curriculum that covers all areas of digital literacy.

We’ve decided that the most important topics in digital literacy, especially for children, are cyber safety, cyber security, and cyber bullying.  We’re going to especially focus our efforts on developing those modules, and then turn to other modules if we have time at the end of the semester.  Future students can model additional modules off of ours, as it will be complete.

If we have the time, we’ll move on Word Processing and Internet Research.  We plan to create modules that include learning objectives that can be applied to any age group, but focus on creating activities specifically for elementary school children.  Other students or individuals who use the curriculum can build on our module by adding activities for adults.

We think this approach will be especially successful and will really get the ball rolling on the Digital Literacy curriculum.  Check back to follow up on our progress.
