Problems/Solutions #2

Posted on July 5, 2009

Now that we’re over half way through the semester, we’re starting to realize that it’s far better to have a good plan and spread the work out than to try and get all the work done right away without taking the time to make a schedule.  While we have been working on our plan all along, and we have used realistic estimates for how long things will take, it looks like there are some things that just can’t be done simultaneously.

Originally, Charlene and I planned to work on developing curriculum at the beginning of the semester, and then start teaching it while continuing to develop it toward the end.  We made this a goal because both of us really wanted to experience teaching the curriculum that we are creating, but several problems have come up that are not making that possible.

The first problem is the one discussed last week – we haven’t even been able to get into the community centers.  At this point, it looks like we won’t get in with enough time to actually start teaching any classes.  Instead we’re just going to have to focus on developing the curriculum.

The curriculum is going well, but slower than we anticipated.  We really want it to be good and comprehensive, though, so we’re okay with taking it slow.

Our biggest goal right now is to make sure that we outline our intentions for the teaching of the curriculum in our project plan and our work breakdown schedule, so the students who take on this project in the future can take off running.
