About David

Background

I am a skilled technology professional with a passion for and specialization in Instructional Technology. Technology has been a hobby of mine since middle school, and I’ve worked in a technology-related position for more than ten years, since the summer after I graduated from high school. Before working in technology, I held a position in a supermarket where I developed extensive conflict resolution, management, and people skills. I am a graduate of Lawton Chiles High School and The Florida State University. After completing my bachelor’s degree, I earned a Florida teaching certificate and the gifted endorsement in addition to completing other educator training.

Overview

My professional goal is to revolutionize teaching and learning by utilizing new and existing technology to transform the way we share information. I am committed to students and the institution of public education, and I believe that students deserve a technology-rich education that will prepare them for the modern society in which they live.

When I commit to a task, I am focused, driven, and efficient. I am proud of my ability to complete diverse projects—not because I know all of the answers, but because I know where to find them. Typically I seek work environments where I’ll be able to make a difference for people who will appreciate my service. I work best independently or in teams where I have a leadership role or a clearly defined task. Viewing each task as an opportunity to learn something new or improve previous skills, I approach every situation with an optimistic attitude and a determination to succeed.

Experience

My experience working with both technology and education dates back to when I was about 14 years old and served as a teacher’s assistant in a computer lab at my middle school. Throughout high school, I worked informally with teachers to resolve computer conflicts and help answer technology integration inquiries, while I also received formal training in Web Design. During this time, many teachers expressed to me their bittersweet relationship with technology. The result of working so closely with teachers while I was still a student was a lasting ability to analyze educational technology ideas from the perspective of everyone involved: students, teachers, and IT administrators.

I have a diverse job history that is rare for someone of my age. I’ve worked in four schools catering to students in grades Pre-K through 5 and 9 through 12. I’ve also worked in the business sector and done consulting-based web design work and technology training. When the Leon County school district opened Conley Elementary School @ SouthWood in 2008, the inaugural principal recruited me for the Technology Coordinator position. After getting the school’s technology up-and-running, in the school’s third year I added teaching technology as a special area to my duties of providing technology support and training. I currently serve as the Technology Specialist at DeSoto Trail Elementary School, where I was a district finalist in the 2015-2016 Teacher of the Year competition. Each of these positions has increased my skill set with information systems, educational practice, and human interaction.

Personal

My strengths include determination, motivation, efficiency, and organization. Those who know me well understand that I have a passion for efficiency, and I believe technology offers countless tools to improve our productivity in all aspects of life. This passion for efficiency provides me with an endless supply of energy when I’m working toward a goal or an assigned project, and I love to feel the satisfaction that comes with completion.

I was born in St. Petersburg, Florida, and raised in Tallahassee. Both of my parents were music education majors, and I’ve always had a fondness for teachers. I have an older brother, an older sister, and a younger brother. Outside of work I enjoy music, reading, and spending time with close friends. My passion for technology influences most of my hobbies.
